McBain's style of painting owes its distinctive accuracy to his early training in graphic art.
In any one of his pictures, a close examination shows his love of detail and its meticulous rendering.
It is this microscopic vision which is so suited to his favourite subjects of apparently undistinguished corners of architecture: the rough brickwork around a stained glass window, the hanging door of an old lean-to, the baler twine around a rusting Edwardian wire stretcher.
